BIO

Yujia Ma (b. 1999, Zhejiang, China) is a visual artist working with lens and words.

Originating from street photography and intuitively falling for self-portraiture and auto-fiction, her work moves through memory, trauma, humor, and healing.

Yujia makes art to play and to heal.

The process usually begins with trance writing. Then the camera — partner in crime, most loyal voyeur — becomes a portal to trance performance, while still demanding attention from the technical mind. Sometimes it opens onto autobiographical personae rooted in other people's stories and memories.

She finds inspiration in the body, the past, scars, swaying shadows, seductive reflections, or anything that clears the bar of her eye.

She believes in talent, effort, resilience, introspection, and serendipity.

Yujia earned her BS from Babson College with a concentration in Marketing, and her MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute in 2025. She has exhibited with Gallery 263, Decode Gallery, Blue Moon Gallery, NJ Pinhole Club, and Carrie Able Gallery, among others, and been featured in 1723 Magazine, MORPH MAG, Know Magazine, and Dilettante.

She is based between New York and Jinhua.
